Antique Pietra Dura Butterfly Conversion Earrings of 14k Gold

Pietra dura is a decorative art that flourished in Florence during the 16th and 17th centuries. A form of mosaic, the intricate process involved cut-to-shape pieces of colored stones against a black slate. This beautifully inlaid construction greatly influenced Italian jewelry creations.

Wonderfully designed, these pietra dura earrings illustrate colorful and dainty butterflies. The earring drops were originally 14k gold cufflinks (circa 1890-1910) transformed by adding 14k gold ear wires. With a touch of nature inspired elegance, you'll immediately fall in love with these small and whimsical butterflies as they delicately flutter from each ear.

The earrings measure 1.35 inches from top to bottom by 0.5 inches wide. They are in very good condition with light surface wear.

Materials: 14k gold, hard stone, stone, yellow gold.
